Return to Normal debuts new CD “Overflown,” folk for this 21st century America

Sunday, May 22nd, 2011

Sunday, June 12, 4:00 pm
Admission $5 at the door (includes a copy of the CD)

Overflown CDJoin acoustic American folk duo Return to Normal as they debut their new release, Overflown. In this ten song CD, artists Marty and Corinne Lucas invert the motto of the City of Chicago, “Urbs in Horto”, (“City in a Garden). They turn their backs on the city, and wander among the folks that dwell in the garden outside the city, watching as the jets fly overhead, “west by northwest to or from Chicago”, so often that on clear days they serve as a makeshift compass.

The set begins with “Joe Casey,” a song which tells the story of a South Bend artist who worked days in the Studebaker plant and spent his evenings creating paintings depicting his younger days in the Missouri Ozarks. “The Lincoln Highway Song” conjures the mirages, and perhaps the chimeras, of a boring drive on a hot midsummer day down the flat and tired pavement of America’s oldest transcontinental road. Then there’s the frustrated wanderlust of a boy who grew up on the wrong side of the clouds in “Ode to the Overflown”.

Released on their own Quality Hill label, Overflown was recorded at Marty and Corinne Lucas’s home in North Judson, Indiana, and mastered by Jon Huxstable at Smallfishrecordings, Ashford Britain, UK. Dirk Shorter joins them on bass.

Overflown is available for download at Bandcamp, iTunes and Amazon MP3. The CD can be purchased on Bandcamp, at Artpost Gallery and at R2N shows.

Sample their music at http://returntonormal.net/. For more information, or to book R2N, write marty@bigeastern.com.
