Dulce Pinzon “Superheroes” calendars

Dulce Pinzón is a photographer based in New York, her work was part of the group exhibit Caras Vemos, Corazones no Sabemos: The Human Landscape of Mexican Migration at the Snite Museum of Art at the University of Notre Dame. Her “Superheroes” series depicts Mexican and Latino immigrants dressed in the costumes of popular American and Mexican superheroes. Each photo pictures the worker/superhero in their work environment, and is accompanied by a short text including the worker’s name, their hometown, the number of years they have been working in New York, and the amount of money they send to their families each week. These photos raise questions about our definition of heroism and our ignorance of and indifference to the workforce that fuels our ever-consuming economy.

The calendars are available at Artpost for $15 — $12 of every calendar sold goes to NY’s New Immigrant Community Empowerment (NICE), a community-based, non-profit organization that works to ensure that new immigrants can build social, political and economic power in their communities and beyond.
